Your wedding probably represents the largest party you’ll ever throw, so of course you want everybody to remember it. As well as sumptuous food and a graceful location, another vital ingredient is the entertainment you lay on for your guests. Obviously you’ll need either live music or top-rate DJ to get your guests up and dancing, but the most memorable weddings tend to include further entertainments, either on the day of the wedding itself or during the celebrations running up to it.
You call the tune
When it comes to music, wedding parties offer plenty of scope, from traditional musicians for drinks receptions to bands or DJs for later on when the party gets going.
Choosing between a band and a DJ is an entirely personal choice. A great live band can really boost the atmosphere, take requests from guests and naturally will follow your instructions as to the style of music played. Likewise, a DJ should take the lead from you when it comes to selecting dance music and in particular, you will need to give clear instructions when it comes to that very special first dance. Whether you opt for a sweeping love ballad to swirl across the floor to or that special song that brought you together as a couple, it needs to be suitably romantic as well as allowing you to show off your dancing skills in each other’s arms. And if that’s something that worries you, settle on your choice good and early so you have plenty of time to practise!
An Explosion of Entertainment
While music is certainly important, if your budget will stretch to it, there are plenty of other entertainment options to be considered. Traditional dancers in vibrant costumes can add a spectacular visual element and if your wedding is bringing together two cultures, it can be the perfect way to introduce unfamiliar guests to your own unique background. Another form of entertainment that is becoming increasingly popular at Asian weddings is to hire a magician for the evening. Moving from table to table, performing mind-boggling tricks, magicians keep guests of all ages wonderfully entertained.
At a large family wedding there are bound to be scores of children, from toddlers to teenagers. Your smallest guests deserve some consideration, so think about booking some children’s entertainers, such as clowns, jugglers or if there’s outside space, even pony rides. A dedicated area where children are looked after and entertained will score a big hit with your guests who are parents, allowing them to enjoy the party and feel much more relaxed.
So whether your wedding is a small and intimate family affair or a grand production, choosing the entertainment for the day is your chance to get really creative and inject some of your character into the proceedings. And remember, it’s never too early to start practising for that special first dance.
