Vaisakhi
Vaisakhi is a festival celebrated widely amongst the Punjabis. It is essentially a harvest festival that has been observed since ancient times. The festival also holds a lot of religious significance for the Sikhs.
It is an important event in the Sikh calendar, heralding the New Year. It also marks the Khalsa establishment by Guru Govind Singh, the tenth Sikh Guru.
The Courses
In order to celebrate Vaisakhi, people who are genuine devotes gather at Gurdwara where the Sikhs worship. The following are the general course that brightens the festival:
• Devotees from all background irrespective of their religious identity are welcome to participate.
• The festival begins with devotees carrying their offerings like flowers in their hands and they set off for Gurdwara before dawn.
• It involves long processions across the town side.
• Through procession and offerings, the Sikhs cherish the establishment of Khalsa and celebrate its birth with full faith and devotion.
Vaisakhi in different regions
Vaisakhi is a very prominent festival observed by the Sikhs in Punjab. It is widely celebrated throughout Punjab. However, there are several NRI Sikhs who stay far away from their native place and but they too celebrate the day. Vaisakhi is observed by them as well with equal traditional fervour and gaiety.
